Tips for spring cleaning your home

Spring is in the air and we are all starting to hopefully feel that there is light at the end of the pandemic tunnel!

As we all start to evaluate what has just happened over the last 12 months plus we have put together some quick spring cleaning tips that we can do in our homes as we start to get back to normal. You may even start to think about putting your house up for sale too! We can certainly help with that as well!

  • Doormats: doormats trap so much dirt, so to refresh use a hosepipe to clean and then leave to air dry. We recommend hoovering indoor doormats on both sides as hoovering on the rear will push trapped dirt onto the floor
  • Windows: never clean your windows on a sunny day as it can lead to streaky windows, wait for an overcast day. Wash windows with glass cleaner and a microfiber cloth.
  • Smelly Kitchen Sink: Try running a couple of lemon rinds around your sink and also leave them in the plug hole to deodorise any bad smells.
  • Microwave: remove food items from the top of the microwave and bad smells – fill a microwave-safe bowl with 1 cup of water and a chopped lemon, lime, or orange, and several teaspoons of vinegar. Turn your microwave on for 5 minutes/or until the water is boiling and then turn off the microwave. Leave the bowl inside for 5 minutes, remove the bowl and wipe. All good items will be removed easily.
  • Chopping boards: if you think the nasty marks or food stains are permanent, use a half cut lemon and wipe over the chopping board to help remove the stains and smells. For extra power for removal try sprinkling some salt first or baking soda.
  • Pots and Pans: soften burn on food by adding water and washing up liquid to your pans and letting them simmer on the cooker. Use a scrubbing sponge or pad to remove any remaining stuck-on bits. A great point is to use Ketchup which helps to dissolve tarnishing on copper pots and pans. Massage the ketchup into the surface and add a pinch of salt if you come across stubborn areas. Stainless Steel appliances: to keep them shiny use the smallest amount of baby oil onto a microfiber cloth and wipe the appliances. You may need to use a polish action but this will make them sparkling clean.
  • Kitchen Draws: cleaning your kitchen draws out use your hoover nozzle to collect the pesky food crumbs that you can’t get with wiping clean. Everyone has a junk draw in the kitchen – look to organise the draw with the many varieties of storage boxes that are now available. Line the draw with a rubber non-slip liner so they all stay in place.
  • Declutter: get rid of expired products this maybe tins, packets, cleaning products right down to make-up and skincare products. Not all products will have an expiry date but if they look old throw them away.
  • Tiles and Grout: Keeping white grout is a bug bearer with so many of us. There are lots of fixes but try using bicarb of soda mixed with water to make a paste then rub onto the grout and scrub using an old toothbrush. An electric toothbrush with an old head will also work too! Take a spray bottle with vinegar and then spray over the mixture on the grout and continue to scrub

Do you have any tips for keeping your home clean and fresh we would love to hear from you and we can add them to our list which we will keep adding to over the coming months!
